What is the amethyst stone?

Ranging from light lilac to deep purple hues, amethyst stones are rich in colour and with a hardness of 7 of the mohs hardness, these are durable stones that can work well for most designs.

 

Amethyst Birthstone

The amethyst birthstone is the official birthstone of February. The amethyst is a stone that has been used throughout history and once symbolising modesty, the deep purple colour quickly became associated with royalty. Today the amethyst is still a popular choice for birthstone jewellery but is also used in a range of, jewellery designs and in particular, remains the gemstone of choice to commemorate a sixth wedding anniversary.  

 

Considered a relatively hard gemstone, amethyst stones and cabochons are an ideal choice for necklaces, rings, earrings and more.

How to care for Amethyst Gemstones

With a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, amethyst stones are generally easy to work with and durable however, as with all gemstones it is advised that appropriate care is taken. Stones should be cleaned only with soapy warm water and not be placed in an ultrasonic cleaner. It is advised that chemicals are not used on any stones.
