Jewellery Drills
Both the Bow Drill and the Marathon Smt1000 Micromotor jewellery drills are designed to assist you in all of your jewellery making projects. Invest in specialist jewellery supplies today.
The traditional Jeweller’s Bow Drill is made from metal and wood. It is operated by twisting the wooden handle around the metal centre pole, which twists the cord. You will need to assemble the drill before use. You should always follow the manufacturer’s instructions before use.
It is good practice amongst jewellers to mark the point to be drilled with a centre punch before using. This helps prevent the drill bit from slipping. Place the drill bit over the point and twist the shaft whilst gently holding onto the handle. This will wrap the cord around the shaft and draw up the handle. The bow drill is also popular as operating it only requires one hand, leaving your other hand free to hold your work. The drilling motion should be a smooth flowing action and will build up speed as you work.
