Drawplates and Drawing Wire from Cooksongold
We sell drawplates in many sizes and shapes for drawing round, square, oval, and D shape wire.
When drawing wire the drawplate should be held securely in place with either a vice or drawbench. Ensure your annealed wire is filed at one end to give it an initial taper. The tapered end is used to draw the wire through the hole of the desired width. To ensure this process is as effective as possible, draw tongs are used to hold the tip of the wire and pull it through. You may often need to use jewellery wax or lubricant. However, you may only need to use this process on thicker wire or tube.
