What is Moonstone

Moonstones are natural stones that are a variety of the mineral feldspar and can either be colourless or be found in a variety of shades including pink, white, peach and grey.

As with most natural gemstones, moonstones have a long and deep history. It’s name was in fact decided by the Romans who likened the stones shimmery appearance to moonlight.

Transparent, blue moonstones are considered the more rare and finer variation of moonstone whilst coloured moonstones are more easily sourced which if why you may notice a difference in price between both.

Moonstones measure a 6 on the Mohs hardness scale making it prone to damage which is often why it is chose for brooches and pendants.
