May's DOTM Winner: Phoebeads Handmade Jewellery

The judges chose this piece because this charming seahorse pendant perfectly captures the essence of summer, combining coastal-inspired imagery, blooming flowers, warm mixed-metal tones and vibrant gemstones to create a design that feels bright, joyful and full of seasonal character.

Laura said the following about the piece:
"I based this pendant design around the top two images that comes to mind when I think of summer; colourful flowers & warm (ideally tropical) seas full of life. I hand cut the seahorse from sterling silver using a stencil of my own design. I punched small indentations to create a more 3D design giving it detailing that doesn't overwhelm the pendant. 

I turned scrap silver and copper into tiny domed flowers with the use of different patina shades to create the warm summer glow I always remember. These flowers and the sea horse sit on a hammered sterling silver wire wave which flows throughout the oval pendant. The land & sea imagery is continued in the small burst of blue (representing water) and pink (representing nature) from tiny preciosa crystals set along the bottom of the pendant."
