Blue sapphire stones range in colour from a deep shimmering blue to a light ocean blue. Sapphires represent loyalty, love and tranquillity, which is why it is such a popular stone for engagement rings. The name for blue sapphire comes from the Latin “sapphirus” and the Sanskrit “sanipryam” which both mean ‘blue stone’. Like the ruby, sapphire stones are part of the corundum family of gemstones, made up of aluminium oxides that have crystallised over hundreds of years to form gemstones of varying colours. Some popular locations for sapphire include Burma, and Kashmir.
Our sapphire jewellery stones are sourced from Kanchanaburi, where the blue of the sapphire is due to the presence of iron and titanium. We currently stock loose sapphire stones in a variety of shapes, including the marquise, princess cut, square, heart and pear shapes, not forgetting the usual cuts in round, oval and cabochon shapes. Sizes may vary from stone to stone so please check for availability. Our sapphire stones are also available in a pack of 25 to 30 stones in varying sizes.
