Historically, malachite was used as a mineral pigment in green paints, although it has now long been popular as a decorative gemstone. It is thought that malachite resembles green mallow leaves and has thus been named after the Greek word for “mallow” leaves “malache”. Due to the nature of the stone, each one is unique and it can feature intricate bands as aggregates, clusters and stripes – each stone can vary in its stripe formation. This means that malachite makes for great jewellery-making projects and will help you to make each jewellery piece in your collection unique. It is not advised to place malachite stones in an ultrasonic, steam cleaner or chemical cleaning solution – instead, clean with warm, soapy water or an untreated cloth to avoid harming the gemstone. Our malachite green collection at Cooksongold is currently available in cabochon shapes in sizes 6 to 8mm. Are you wondering how to mount your malachite stone or make the perfect pendant?
