Use a pattern plate of your choice and a rolling mill to create these beautiful teardrop earrings. We’ve used the pattern ‘Waves’ for this design.

Other Summer pattern plates include Roses, Ripples, Buds and Foliage, to name just a few.

Step One

Use a piece of scrap metal or copper of similar size and thickness to set your rolling mill to the right setting for the pattern impression you’d like to achieve.

Place the teardrop shape on the pattern section you like and roll through the rolling mill.

Step Two

Rolling the teardrop shape through the rolling mill will elongate the shape slightly. The more pressure the rolling mill applies the deeper the pattern will impress and the more the original metal shape will distort.

Step Three

Use a paintbrush to apply Platinol to the textured part of both teardrops.

Do not use a natural hair paintbrush in platinol as it will destroy the bristles.

Step Four

When dry use a polishing cloth to remove the black colour from the top surface of the earring. Use a burnisher to rub over the earring post.

You could also use a barrel polisher or pendant motor to add shine to the earrings.

Step Five

Thread the teardrop onto the earring hook. Make sure you thread the teardrop on so that the pattern faces the front when worn.
