Fimo is a fun way to experiment with colour and add playful characters whilst also creating bold and wearable jewellery. Try this out by creating this Happy Earth Fimo Pendant to celebrate Earth Day.

Step 1

Roughly cut up a small piece (1/8) of the green, the 2 blue and brown Fimo polymer clay.

Step 2

Piece together the bits of clay on a waterproof mat and use an acrylic rolling pin to make a sheet of clay about the thickness of a pound coin. Ensure all the pieces are blended together.

Note: You could use a stack of playing cards either side of the roller when rolling to ensure a specific thickness of the clay sheet.

Step 3

Roll out a 5p sized piece of translucent blue as thin as possible and mix together a pea sized piece of white pearl clay with translucent blue clay and roll this out as thin as possible.

Step 4

Rip pieces of the rolled out blue and mix of blue and white clay and place on top of the clay sheet. Roll the clay flat and blend any clay using a finger or ball end tool.

Step 5

You can add texture to the surface by rolling a piece of coarse sandpaper on the surface of the clay.

Step 6

Use the circle cutter to cut out a circle shape.

Step 7

Take a tiny piece of dark blue clay and use a ruler or acrylic strip to roll into a long sausage shape. Cut to size and bend into a curve and add to the clay circle to create a smile.

Step 8

Make 2 tiny balls of dark clay and flatten. Make 2 even tinier pearl white balls and add on to the flattened blue balls. Add these to the clay circle to make eyes.

Step 9

To make the circle domed place the clay over a silicone spoon or egg poacher and gentle bend over the shape.

Step 10

Place the clay on the baking tray. Part bake the dome on the silicone shape for 15 minutes at 110 degrees centigrade.

Step 11

Roll out a piece of scrap clay into a long sausage shape. When the clay dome is cool add the sausage shape to the reverse of the dome in a hoop shape. Blend and join both ends of the sausage shape to the dome and ensure your chosen chain will fit through the space. You could shape the hoop around a metal straw to keep it’s shape.

Step 12

Put the dome on a baking tray and bake in the oven at 110 degrees centigrade for 30 minutes.

Step 13

When cool use a wet microfine mesh to sand and smooth any edges.

Step 14

Thread the rubber necklet through the hoop.

Save this for later
