Getting started with Project X? Here is a selection of FAQs to provide you with all the information you need.

Project X silver clay delivers a user-friendly experience showcasing excellent results to its customers. This silver clay focuses on its versatility, construction capabilities and higher sintering levels, making it a great choice for jewellers aiming to craft intricate and durable designs.

Why is my clay dry or hard when I first open the pack?

While your clay may appear dry at first glance, it’s simply a part of its design. The unique ‘dryness’ of the clay upon opening the package is a result of the vacuum packing process, which compacts the clay. This innovative process is effortless, either roll the clay or knead it with your fingers before proceeding with your creation.

The clay isn’t hard because it has dried but because it has been compacted when vacuum packed.

Do I need to use water to activate the clay?

Project X metal clay is crafted to transform into a perfectly smooth and workable substance without the need for water. It is a fundamental principle to knead your clay to awaken elasticity of the binder without adding water to fresh clay, which can lead to unwanted stickiness.

How can I fire this clay?

You can use either a torch or kiln to fire the clay. Please refer to the information table for times and temperatures.

  • High temperature – 900°C for 30 minutes for the highest hardness and maximum durability
  • Low temperature – 600°C for forty-five minutes

Torch firing at high temperature for two minutes or longer.

For best results, use a kiln with proper ventilation, ceramic tiles or soldering pads. Project X .999 Fine Silver Clay has a 22% shrinkage reducing the risk of cracking or distortion of the final piece.

What is the melting temperature of the clay?

Please refer to the information table for the melting temperature of each clay.

How much rehydration fluid should I use?
