If you’ve ever wanted to explore more advanced jewellery making techniques or bring laser precision into your designs, the Magic L3 Laser Engraving and Cutting machine can help you do this. In this guide, we’ll show you how to make a layered pendant using this powerful tool – a perfect project for anyone looking to take their jewellery to the next level.

Step 1

Start with a piece of 0.70mm silver sheet, measuring 25mm x 25mm. Remove the protective plastic layer and place the metal on the honeycomb table. With the help of the inbuilt camera, you can view your working surface directly within the software.

Step 2

For this project, we’re using a simple circle and ring design – but you can personalise it however you like. Once your design is ready, create a tool path suited to your metal type and thickness.

Step 3

Before you start cutting, always double-check the boundary lines and review the countdown timer. This will give you an idea of how long the job will take.

Step 4

To create the layered effect, cut duplicates of your base shape. Be sure to repeat your positioning checks for each cut to maintain consistency.

Step 5

Using a design sample, scale and position your chosen cut-out shape. Then, generate a new cutting tool path.

Step 6

Before cutting, use the preview function to visualise your design on the metal. Once satisfied, let the machine do its work.

Step 7

For one of the layers, import your design and scale it to fit. Use a hatching tool path for deep engraving – ideal for adding enamel or resin later on. As always, tool path settings will vary based on your material.

Step 8

Double-check the engraving position before pressing start. Adjust as needed to ensure the best possible result.

Step 9

On the final layer, shallow engraving is perfect for fine detail work. We’ve chosen a delicate floral design here, but you can pick whatever you like.

Step 10

With all three layers complete, it’s time for a quick clean and polish.

Step 11

Attach your engraved layers to a jump ring and display them on a chain of your choice. The finished pendant is a beautiful, custom piece – made with precision using the Magic L3.

Save this for later
