Earth Day, celebrated annually on 22nd April, is a global reminder of the responsibility we all share in protecting our planet. Since its establishment in 1970, the movement has grown into one of the largest environmental initiatives, inspiring millions to take action.

As part of the jewellery making industry, we recognise the importance of ethical sourcing, reducing waste, and making more environmentally conscious choices. Here are some of the steps we’re taking in to support a more sustainable future.

Supporting Global Reforestation

Since 2022, Cooksongold has been working with Ecologi, a company that funds reforestation and carbon reduction projects. Through this partnership, we have planted over 40,000 trees and offset more than 3,400 tonnes of CO₂, helping to reduce our overall environmental impact. By continuing to support global conservation efforts, we aim to make a tangible difference for future generations.

Improving Packaging to Reduce Waste

The materials used in packaging play a crucial role in sustainability, which is why we are constantly looking to reduce unnecessary waste. We have replaced plastic grip-lock bags with compostable cellulose bags and introduced recyclable paper tape and easy-peel labels.

Additionally, our recycled packaging range is designed with sustainability in mind. Our Kraft gift boxes and bags are made from recycled materials and are biodegradable, while our eco-textured boxes are FSC-accredited and fully recyclable. These small but significant changes help to reduce plastic use across the jewellery making industry.

100% Recycled Precious Metals

Sustainability isn’t just about packaging—it’s also about the materials jewellers use. We are proud to offer a range of 100% recycled gold and silver, available in sheet, wire, grain, tube and findings. This ensures jewellers can work with high-quality metals while making more environmentally responsible choices.

By choosing recycled metals, jewellers can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a more circular economy, where materials are reused rather than discarded.

Why Earth Day Matters

The need to reduce plastic pollution and make more sustainable choices is continually growing in improtance. Whether through selecting recycled metals, switching to eco-friendly packaging or reducing waste in the workshop, every decision can have a positive impact.

Sustainability in jewellery making is a journey, and every step counts. By making thoughtful choices, jewellers can contribute to a healthier planet—not just on Earth Day, but throughout the year.

At Cooksongold, we remain committed to supporting sustainable jewellery-making. Explore our range of eco-friendly packaging and 100% recycled metals to take the next step towards a greener future.
