Father’s Day is just around the corner, this is why we had our content creator put together this project, that’s perfect for the special man in your life. A beautiful pair of personalised cufflinks!
Step 1

Place the sterling silver on a steel block. You can use double side tape to secure it in place if needed.
Step 2

Draw a line or use an Impressart sticker to workout the positioning of where you would like your letters to go.
Step 3

Position the letter stamp face down in the position you want the letter to be. Ensure that the letter will be stamped the right way up! Strike the top of the stamp using a hammer.
Try to strike the letter stamp evenly and just once to get the best impression first time.
It is always a good idea to practice on a piece of copper sheet or scrap silver first.
Step 4

Place the stamped silver circle blank face down on a soldering block. Add a small amount of solder paste to the bottom of the cufflink arm and place this in the centre of the silver disc. Hold the cufflink arm in place with reverse action tweezers. Ensure the cufflink is touching the silver disc and is even and level.
Heat up the disc using a blowtorch and then gently heat up the cufflink arm evenly until both are equally heated and the solder melts and flows. Leave the cufflink to cool.
Quench (cool) in water.
Step 5

Place the cufflink in a warm pickle solution for 10 minutes or until clean.
Remove from the pickle solution, rinse and dry.
Repeat this process to create a second cufflink.
Step 6

Use micromesh to remove any excess solder and smooth any edges on the cufflinks.
To finish use a silver polishing cloth to bring out the shine or use a metal brush to add a scratched matt surface. Use a tumble barrel polisher with barrelbrite, shot and water to bring out an overall polished look.
Step 7

Use platinol to darken the letters and add detail. Use micromesh to remove any areas that become too dark or are unwanted.
Step 8

As a variation you could texture the front of the disc and stamp a hidden message on the back of the cufflinks.

And there you have it, the perfect project for Father’s Day!
