Natural gem stones are much admired, but these unashamedly fake rubies from Manchester minerals, transform a monochrome silver necklace into something sparky and fit for a party.

At about eight pounds the lot, including postage and VAT, you get a lot of bangs for your bucks.

You’ve seen this design before, but after my metre and a half long necklace I had two more requests for the same, only shorter. For fear of discomfort , I have also only set them on one side this time.

My second short version has amethyst and topaz together as requested. Although I was sceptical about the combination, it seems to work just fine. Dennis.
