Ensure that any crusty darker coating is removed before using. I was amazed at how easily and well this fired with just a torch. Although the instructions do not mention this method the firing process only takes a couple of minutes once glowing and was very successful. It picked up texture well and I didnt even need to pickle it, just polished with grits and gave a final polish for a great result.
