    Default Prong size question

    Hi there,

I'm new to prong stone setting. I've created a model but I'm not sure how thick in diameter the prongs should be? The stones are to be 8mm in diameter or so.

    Thank you for your patience

I dont do castings and there is no set size. It really depends on whether you want your prongs to be minimal, or make a design statement. It helps for setting if they are over long to start with and cut with a saw once bent over. They can also be thinned more once cast

For minimal prongs in silver wire, I have recently used filed down round wire to render it D-shaped, measuring approx 1.00 x 0.60mm. Dennis

As Dennis said there is no real set formula. But if your Cad and casting it I wouldnt go less than .8mm if its a 4 claw setting also depends on the stone
