Hi John, what I'm trying to do is form around items that sit on top of the silver - at the moment with rings - so that the silver isn't covered by the copper. So as you can hopefully see here, by soldering a little silver disc to the top of the shank I can mask the silver and the forming happens on top of the copper disc, creating a strong bond. Just glueing the form to the shank, masking the silver and then forming doesn't create as strong a bond (ask me how I know that!)

So I use the superglue and bicarb trick to attach the stone or item to the copper disc, leaving the silver unformed.

On my ever growing list of things to try is silver plating over copper - is that what you did with cuff links there or did you do the forming in silver? Nice texture on those by the way! I've got a ring that's hopefully going to be finished today that's got some good texture - just need to take off the nail varnish and play with patina but I have a Zelda comic con costume to start making today

To say I'm pleased with this one would be an understatement....

The shape was created with air drying clay, the stone is a little labradorite briolette bead, silver shank is etched.

Hi Deb Yes I plated the silver over copper , I think Gateros plating now have one that can form silver without the need for the copper , but I think it has cyanide in it which I am not too keen to play with

Yes, I have a friend who was playing with silver eforming for her collection at Desire, it was her who pushed me to try eforming. Sadly the silver kit they've got is both a bit too expensive and as you say cyanide-y for me!
