Default Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas 2018!

Hope everyone is set for a wonderful Christmas in a few days time

This is my last commission order for 2018, and as per usual I'm trying to combine wood with silver to make something a little bit unique.

Everything is made from scratch, and the silver Angel and star were cast, soldered and refined by filing and so on.

The smallest tree is set with 16 x Zirconia gems using the exact same technique as we would for stone setting in precious metals. Only difference is they are epoxyed in place.

    Cheers,

    Nick

Very special Nick. Have you made chess pieces? Dennis.

I've actually got a potential commission next year Dennis to make a full set of custom figures in bronze, on a wooden board and in a bespoke box.

Whole lot of work involved so haven't committed to do it yet!

I love these Nick. Is each tree turn as one or are they component parts and what kind of wood?

Wood is Iroko, Oak and Sapele.

I always have offcuts from other projects laid about and that's where these three came from.

All turned as single pieces on the lathe.

Many thanks and I'm pleased you like them.

    Cheers,

    Nick

These are gorgeous, I love mixed media projects and wood is such a naturally beautiful material. I do hope you make that chess set!

Nick, just out of interest, did you turn them on a mandrel or are they just turned from a solid piece and parted off.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.

I'm sometimes unsure if I should post such pieces on the forum because they incorporate wood, but then again I use my jewellery skills in making them too so thanks for not banning me haha!

China: Turned by hand from offcuts, then parted. Each tree is different which was my aim.

    Cheers,

    Nick

It's diversity Nick, it broadens our minds. after all we've had swords and knives and bowls. In fact I'm wearing a bowl now, for my Christmas haircut. Dennis.
