Default Bracelet bead / Organic bowl

    Hi all,

I've been absent for ages from the forum, lost in the world of woodworking ( and the day job! )

Posting this recent commission piece as I think it was an interesting one.

The Pandora bead was formed from the broken Georgian rose gold ring. Incidentally I found it really hard metal to work. Anyone else notice this with rose gold? It's from the 1800's so God knows what the alloy mix is.

    Cheers,

    Nick

Thats cool Nick, good to see you back
I don't find Rose gold any different to work really than yellow so it could just be the alloy used.

    Forgot to post the bowl!

Made from Sapele and inset with 18 random silver spots. Makes a nice contrast with the dark wood and I really enjoy combining wood with metal.

Cheers Sarah, and I really need to force myself to find the time to start contributing again.

There's been some great work done by members since I've been gone I see!

Welcome back Nick. I really like the bowl. I find it interesting that wood and metal can be rubbed down flush like that. With acrylic, the metal will tend to stand proud. Dennis.

    Cheers Dennis.

I've made several organic bowls, all different designs but this is the first I've incorporated metal into.

I do plan to do this even more however, and I'm working on a bespoke box for a customer that has silver embedded in the lid.

    Cheers,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

I also love the bowl. Lovely curves and the silver is very subtle.

The heart is really nice as well. Delft clay looks like fun

Sometimes less is more and I bore this in mind when making it. Thank You.

I have a love / hate relationship with delft clay to be honest, and in fact I prefer cuttlefish for moulds!

What I find is that delft is good for casting the rough model, then I spend time crafting the final shape by doing lots of progressive filing.

As I've learnt from experience, filing is probably one of the most essential skills to learn as a jeweller!

    Cheers,

    Nick
