Argentium works really well for me, but I find I still need to pickle them and sometimes put them in a tumbler for a few minutes. You can still end up with golf clubs if you go too quickly with thicker wire though.

Thanks snorkmaiden. I found I still needed to pickle argentium too(slightly blackened stems), haven't got myself a tumbler so it's the old fashioned method for me.
