Ah ok, its easy for us and my husband does a lot of welding so just picks it up from the same shop as the welding gases.

I started with a small butane torch and am currently using both that and a Seivert. I've been wanting a new torch for a while and having read threads on the forum and research myself am currently saving for smiths mini torch with the oxycon. It does seem to be quite a popular torch to use.

Mind you I couldn't get mine to melt silver for casting either so may have been I needed the next size torch but then again the size I was using scared the heck out of me on full LOL
I reckon you would love it after the first few minutes Caroline, I hate change myself but after whining that it was all different for a few minutes and taking a couple of sessions to get the hang of getting the flame right I was in love with it.
the thing is that for intricate items you can have a tiny flame so no risk of accidentally remelting joints on small claws etc.

Many, the set up confused me at first too, many people have a thing I can't remember what its called that produces the oxygen rather than buying it in tanks.
I think though if you are in the UK you should be able to get the parts you need from Cooksons, maybe contact them and ask?
It was more complicated for me as we are in Portugal and our gas bottles don't fit the standard stuff that comes with the torch.
Ive just been looking about where to get oxygen cylinders from. Half heartedly tonight i must admit. But will lookat cooksons aswell. Thanks for the info x

    Here's a link to Hobbyweld's offering - 137 bar, 9l:

And for completeness, the agent finder:

Air Liquide have cottoned on to this too and have a similar system; I've not used them (although I've just found a very reasonable gas supplier in Salisbury who delivers so I might make the switch):

Seems like BOC (Linde Group) have the same policy in the UK as they do in Australia they are one of the last companies to stick with the rental only system it will be to their detriment
most other suppliers now have a one off purchase and the you only pay for refills. Bunnings have this is Australia I don't know if they offer this in the Uk
