Default Theme Competition February 2018 - Love

    Hi everyone,

The most romantic day of the month has arrived, so we want to see what you have been making to celebrate! That's why the theme for this month's competition is LOVE - you could submit a piece you have made especially for Valentine's Day, a special design you have made for a loved one, or something else with a love theme.

One entry will be chosen to win a £100 Cooksongold shopping spree.

This competition closes at midnight, Wednesday 28th February.

    Good luck!

    Terms & Conditions:

The closing date for the competition will be at midnight GMT 28.02.18.

The judging will take place on 01.03.18. The following criteria are used to determine the winner: design, the technique used and the overall finish of the piece. The Cooksongold judging panel will make the final decision.

The winner will be announced and notified via the forum by 02.03.18. The winner must redeem their shopping spree (up to the total value of £100) using their own Cooksongold account and within 2 months of receiving their winner information email.

In the case of the winner's shopping spree exceeding the total prize value of £100, the winner is liable to pay for any amount over the value of £100.

The competition is open to all Cooksongold customers aged 18 years and over. Only one entry per person.

Employees of Cooksongold, their agents and families are excluded from the competition together with any person connected to the competition.

To enter the competition, simply comment on the relevant forum thread with a photo of your themed design. No correspondence will be entered into.

    Smile Sand casting

With the quality of silversmiths in this forum I don't think I have a chance of ever winning one of these theme competitions...but I enjoy the spirit of competition and having a go!

Here is a heart I made almost this time last year when I was first starting out in silversmithing. It is made using the Delft Clay method of casting.

    Handmadeblanks; Simple, elegant and classic!
Was that your first attempt at casting?
Did you use a wax model or a found object to create your mould?

    Hi Everyone,
My name is Matthew and I am making me and my fiancées wedding bands. We are getting married in June this year. I have found it frustrating yet enjoyable and so far it has gone well. Started practicing with casting an aluminium ring out of coke cans, then used that as a pattern to cast with argentium silver. Next step is the gold I am having white gold and she is having rose gold. Pictures attached are my ring of both aluminium and silver.

Theyre cute, I couldn’t manage anything that small yet. I have a silver pendant that I’ve been working on (my first project that isn’t beads on string!) but not sure yet if I’ll have it finished in time.
