    Default Metal supplier

There was a question regarding making tools for shaping with, such as punches etc. well for making punches and chasing tools I use silver steel rods, which I shape and then harden and temper before use. I also make press tools using brass rods. I thought some may be interested in checking out this metal supplier, they stock a lot of useful metals, both rods and sheets in various shapes and sizes.

Am I right in thinking 1/4 " is an average useful diameter for punches?

I used 1/8" and 1/4" silver steel rods for making my texturing and chasing tools, both round rod and square rods. The round rods are also great for winding jumprings etc. When I ordered I ordered a selection of sizes. I have also bought silversteel rods from this supplier; https://www.ekpsupplies.com/silversteel.html
