Smile earrings fittings for non-pierced ears

Does anyone have a good design for non-pierced ear fittings? I am making a nice pair of opal earrings, but somehow the clip ons available look kind of cheap. I bought an Omega pair and just tried soldering them to a disc but have lost the springiness by doing so. They are tumbling at the moment to see if it improves.
It's so much easier making for pierced ears!
    Thanks guys

Im told the screw in ones are more comfortable, Theresa:

I made a pair for a friend using those and they were easy to work with and she's happy.

Thanks Sarah, I was hoping to make something, but not screws!

Have you tried these, or are they the ones you feel look cheap? Paddle and Joint ear clips from: http://www.rashbel.co.uk/ear-fittings
The Joint is soldered to the earring, and the Paddle, which needs to retain it's springiness, is fitted as the final job.

    Cookson equivalent: http://www.cooksongold.com/Findings/...prcode-NVK-111

Disclaimer: I have not used these recently myself, but my father used them by the 100s (if not 1000s) back in the day, in both Sterling and plated, so I spent many evenings after school in front of the TV clipping paddles into joints.

I stock a few clips but find that those without pierced ears are curiously reluctant to spend on earrings, they want cheap cheap.

I tried a few clips from Cookson which weren't fit for purpose and I sent then back. They had a clip that also screwed which my customer said was comfy and felt secure. I don't have pierced ears so rarely wear earrings now but finding a reliable but comfortable fitting woud be great. US women seem more happy to wear them and I seem to remember Rio Grande had a huge selection. Wouldn't know how to make them though

Thank you everyone. I had to change the design in the end. He wanted clips not screws, so just made them into boring dangles!
I have ordered some 'paddles' for another day.
