    Talking Hi from Lincolnshire

    Good Morning Everyone

Just wanted to post and say hi, i'm completely new to jewellery making. I'm hoping to specialise in sterling silver and i've booked onto a 'make a ring course' this Saturday where i'll learn how to make a decorative sterling silver ring. The description says i'll learn how to measure, shape, solder, apply texture and finish a ring. I'm really excited.

If you've heard of the brand Daniella Draper or Salt and Silver (which unless you're from Lincolnshire, UK you most likely haven't!), i'm hoping to create similar pieces in the future so any advice would be much appreciated if anyone has any experience in the area.

    Thanks,

    Liv

Hi liv and welcome to the forum.

I hope that you will enjoy your course and be inspired to make lots of things to your own design.

There are many approaches to making rings and it would be interesting to know which one you are taught. Dennis.

Hi Liv, I went on a similar day course in the summer last year. I made a textured silver bangle with simple charm and absolutely loved it!
I've since gone on to do a weekly class and am improving my skills slowly. Getting in lots of practice is required. I often forget how to do something at home - often very little things - so I would suggest taking step by step photos or some quick notes to jog your memory at home.
Enjoy your day and post some photos so we can see the end result!

Dennis - Thank you for your kind words :-)

Scarlet - I'm so excited, I feel like a child at Christmas! I've wanted to learn for so long.
Unfortunately the course is very expensive so i'm just going to trial a few and see what I think. Sounds a good idea to keep a journal I will most certainly do that. Okay I will do, you guys will have to be nice though it'll be the first piece i've ever made!

The first class I took was expensive but often local colleges do part time /evening classes. They are often less than half the price of just a day class and can be really good...you can get to practice in between. That's what I've done.

I ordered some bits and bobs which came last night, playing around with the wire and made a rose ring :-) Apologies for horrible hands.

Never worry about "horrible hands" if your hands are creating beautiful things. You have lovely strong slim fingers and the ring complements your hand beautifully! It's quite lovely.
