Default Theme Competition August 2017 - Animals

    Hi everyone,

During August we are celebrating animals both big and small in our monthly competition - whether that be your furry companion or something a bit more exotic.

So, this month we want to see your ANIMAL themed designs, and one winner will be chosen to receive a prize of a £100 Cooksongold shopping spree.

Simply submit an image of your piece (along with a brief description if possible) on this thread by midnight, Thursday 31st August 2017 to enter.

    Good luck!

    Terms & Conditions:

The closing date for the competition will be at midnight GMT 31.08.17.

The judging will take place on 01.09.17. The following criteria are used to determine the winner: design, the technique used and the overall finish of the piece. The Cooksongold judging panel will make the final decision.

The winner will be announced and notified via the forum by 01.09.17. The winner must redeem their shopping spree (up to the total value of £100) using their own Cooksongold account and within 2 months of receiving their winner information email.

In the case of the winner's shopping spree exceeding the total prize value of £100, the winner is liable to pay for any amount over the value of £100.

The competition is open to all Cooksongold customers aged 18 years and over. Only one entry per person.

Employees of Cooksongold, their agents and families are excluded from the competition together with any person connected to the competition.

I'm getting in early with this one so I don't forget as we have a busy month!

These are a pair of cufflinks I made my husband to wear on our wedding day I melted down scrap silver and pierced them out once I had rolled it into sheet, they are soldered into standard t-bar fittings (from cookson of course!)

I'm really pleased with how they turned out and he loved them, he had no idea I was making them.

We have kept pet rats for years and we also had a pet tortoise at the time who had unfortunately since passed away. They just live in a box now as he rarely wears a suit but they are a nice keepsake!

This was a silver brooch I made a while back. A silverback gorilla. The customer was going to set rubies in the eyes.

Unhindered, I love the simplicity and sentiment of your cufflinks. What a wonderful keepsake.

That gorilla is beautiful James. I bet the customer was thrilled.

    Lovely cufflinks and brooch.

This is a pendant I just finished, two silver horse heads joined together with gold manes and a diamond set in a gold bezel.

lovely pieces to see - hope there are more to come xx

Mine is not totally exotic, but not my normal Tesla-kitty on this occasion.

Saw one of these in real life and was inspired. The take off and being up in the air was amazing. Not that mine can do anything like that!

Made from silver. The engraving took me over two and a half hours. 3-d face made from doming and then filing into the shape. I did consider doing some Chasing, but really can't get the hang of it, so back to what I can get the hang of. Sweat soldering was done to connect the head and wings.

it is approx. 84mm wide and 31mm high.

Charlotte, those cufflinks are so cute!

James, your gorilla is lovely - I don't think I've seen it before, is it a new piece?

Sarah, that's a gorgeous pendant, how did you make it?

Wallace, beautiful as always - love his little face!

I love your horses Sarah. The pose is reminiscent of my sister-in-laws horses, Bleach and Ben and the way they'd cosy up.

Might be showing my age here Wallace but when I saw your owl pendant I instantly thought of David Bowie and Labyrinth! Lovely work as always!

Think it's going to be a tough month for the judge!

    Lovely owl Wallace!
    Thank you Lauren and Ceri
The horses are hand carved separately in wax from photos then cast and soldered together with the gold manes added afterwards as wire soldered on.
The horses are around 22mm wide.
Sorry, don't know why it posted twice but it won't let me remove it :/
