impact noises - how to get reduce them to a minimum

Hello,

When you are hammering something solid, for example a bracelet to fold form it, this can be pretty noisy also when using your disc cutter and other "jeweler taks" ... And when it's only one or two per week it doesn't mind too much, but if its more than this it can be really annoying (particularly if somebody is living below you).

I use to place a rag below or something similar to reduce impact noises, but is not a good solution. It doesn't absorb impacts well, the hammering unbalances and the noise doesn't reduce so much.

Do you know what could i use?

The best thing of all is a tree stump resting on the floor, but most of us use a leather sand bag. They are expensive, but the bigger (within your budget) the better, because things tend to wander off centre.

You can make your own if you research the skill, or simply search the web for the best price.

Lastly you can use a thick blanket folded into about eight layers. When prolonged hammering was involved I have used a sand bag and blanket combined. Dennis.
