    Default Uhlig U5

    Hi
I have never enamelled before but have been given a Uhlig U5 kiln. It is in great condition but has no instructions - can anyone point me in the direction of instructions (I've tried Google!)

Also can anyone recommend a good book for the absolute beginner!

    Many Thanks

    Hi Dennis
Thanks for getting back to me - most of the stuff you highlighted I have seen - largely descriptions of kiln rather than instructions for use - perhaps I'm expecting it to be more complicated than it is!

I'll have to get my hands on a good book for absolute beginners in the absence of a course - either that or just dive right in! (Fortunately there's a lot of stuff out there on safety equipment. LOL)

I found the instructions in German maybe email the company and see if they do an English version

As I have read it, this is an entry level kiln with no adjustments or instruments. You plug it in, switch on and it eventually reaches its maximum temperature of around 900°C as judged by the white glow.
No more to be said really.

The specifications are given by the seller near the top of the page I linked to.
The pros and cons are discussed further down.
The rest will be found in a manual for enamelling, which I hope some of our enamelling members can suggest. Dennis.

    Thanks Josef and Dennis.

I'll look into English instructions and a good book asap - can't wait to give it a go!
