    Default Branding Iron

    Hi all,

Bit of a strange one this, and although it's not metal related, it's still linked to my ongoing jewellery making endeavours.

Looking for a UK supplier of small bespoke branding irons. Basically I want someone to produce my logo on a metal block on the end of a handle which would then allow me to heat it up and then brand the wooden items I create ( i.e. Jewellery boxes, ring holders, and so on ).

I've googled it but without success. Anyone got any recommendations please?

    Cheers,

    Nick

Well, I know of a highly regarded supplier of a similar tool used by leather workers, but unfortunately they are not uk based.
I don't know if they would work on wood, but they come with a soldering iron fitting if required.
If you get desperate, google hex n hit on etsy.

You know what, I never considered Etsy. Thanks for that, and looks like I'll order one from overseas.

Other options that spring to mind -

Find someone with a suitable CNC mill (Joe?)
Get one done in CAD, printed and cast in brass.
I've seen a suggestion of using Shapeways' sintered metal as a brand - http://makezine.com/2016/06/15/make-...branding-iron/
Get a chunk of brass and engrave one

    Thanks Peter.

I've no access to a cnc milling machine, and I've no experience of casting brass. In fact can you buy brass casting grain anywhere?

I could 3d print my logo easily enough and cast it in silver I suppose. Any disadvantages of using silver as a branding iron other than cost of the metal?

Silver would be OK I recon but it dissipates heat quickly like aluminium, steel would be best but my mill isn't really strong enough for steel. . Hot foil stamps come to mind but there made from magnesium not to expensive but you would need to check up as its combustible. I've used this company in the past. http://www.parkgraphicsltd.co.uk/portfolio/products/ . I can have a go at milling it for you in brass if your not in a rush !

Josef you're a star if you could possibly mill me one in Brass?

I would of course pay you for your services.

Do you have an email address I could send you a rhino file to please?
