White sterling bronze clay
Hi everyone,
I'm new to jewellery making so forgive me if this is a really stupid question.
I have been using white bronze sterling clay for the first time this week and it comes out looking more like steel. I wanted it to look more like silver so would it be possible when it's fired to paint it in the sterling silver clay paste and re fire. If so would this work and how long would I fire for.
Many thanks xx

Hi Karenb,
It is unlikely that anyone here has tried what you suggest, but we all have to experiment with techniques. So why not try it and let us know the result?
Of course I don't know what you are making, but if the two clays have a similar firing temperature, I would prefer to try applying the second coat to the raw base and firing them together. That would reduce the risk of melting the whole thing.
If the silver top coat has to be fired much higher, you will have a problem. Dennis.

Thanks Dennis, I might give it a try. I'll post the results

Not really an answer to your question but I agree with Dennis that it's worth a try. Having looked at the product I'm wondering why some companies are calling it white bronze clay and others as you are white bronze Sterling. I've looked at the contents and there is no sterling, you can see I have too much time on my hands today!

Yes I actually wondered that myself when buying it. It said on the website that it would look similar to silver but it's definitely more of a steel colour.

That is a bit misleading as it implies there may be silver in the mix.

So I have now hopefully found my answer, accent silver. I'm giving that a try

No didn't work. Back to the drawing board

Wouldn't you be as well using silver clay or is it just too expensive?
Have you tried different finishing techniques after it's fired, that may change the colour?

I am using that too but I just wanted a cheaper option because I enjoy making quite a few
