    Thanks every body.
You have all confirmed what I knew to be right in my heart!

I will keep going how I am and maybe try to find new outlets for my work, which is the bit I find most frightening.

I just need to track down some nice copper ear wires and chain.
Cooksons don't seem to do copper.

Flat twin and earth wire for copper, it's solid core and very good for working into chain

I wouldn't worry too much about sales being slow as they often are at this time of year. Just use the time to make loads and loads for Christmas, as I think it's going to be a good 'un.

And I agree that it's best to use sterling with your best stuff. Having said that, at Christmas I make stocking filler jewellery which is all packaged into cellophane bags with a pretty coloured insert. I use plated findings (but not earwires) for some of it. I charge between £5 and £10 and people do like to rummage through. Packaging it that way keeps it separate from my more expensive stuff.

@ Pandanimal: Why not make your own copper earwires? I make all my own, that way I get just what I want - and copper's much cheaper for tinkering with.
