    Default Soldering fumes

    Hello all
    Just looking for some advice.

I have a small workshop in my house. I solder by a window, and have a gas mask.
I am concerned about the fumes from soldering.
    Is opening the window enough?

I saw that Maplin sell an extration fan for the other sort of soldering with a soldering iron. Do you think this would work with open torch soldering?

Thank you in advance for your help
    Corinne

It really depends on how much soldering you are going to do, the size of your torch and whether you have special health reasons, such as pregnancy.

For an amateur, using a mini torch occasionally for short periods, having a door and widow open for a through draft might be enough. For a large torch, used throughout the day, a hood and extraction unit would be ideal.

As you see there is no clear answer and you might decide to settle for something in between. Dennis.
