Wow - thanks for the great advice! As to whether the pearls are wild or cultivated, I don't know. They are certainly "Real" south sea pearls around 10mm diamater that cost over $300 each some years back. An individual pendant mount was my initial idea to show them off, but perhaps a wire cage type design may be less invasive? Any ideas welcome and again, thanks for the advice so far!

One way is to make a large bail solder a stem to the bail and glue the stem into the pearl and also glue the bail to the pearl, in place of the cup, as some people do not like the look of the cup

We can now call them farmed pearls rather than cultured pearls thanks to a new ruling a couple of days ago at CIBJO in Bahrain. Two top quality round deep gold south sea pearls could cost that much retail, yes, though that is a top price for farmed. farmed pearls won't lose value particularly by being drilled. If it is for a pendant they don't need a cup so much - you could use a 1mm or even a 1.5mm post if that fits your design plan.
Wire cages smacks of those dreadful pick a pearl/wish pearl things.

Agreed on the cage - watched something along those lines on YouTube. Cheers again for the advice and help - you've reassured me to have a go - with care.

    helpful thread to read.
the hole in my pearl is 10mm. and wire is 10mm. I wonder if the wire has to be a bit thicker?
I feel it is a bit loose as the pearl is hallow.
I used B-6000. not sure what is the difference between B6000 and E6000. Anyway it is easy to control.
