    Default Sterling Silver Beaded Choker

    Good morning
Please can somebody tell me whether a Sterling Silver beaded choker of 16ins using 6m beads would need to be hallmarked if the findings are marked 925 and a tag stating 925 is attached. Thankyou Jo

It's all about the weight. If the finished piece has a silver weight of more than 7.78g, then yes, it needs to be hallmarked by an assay office. I don't know if you're talking about 6mm silver beads, or just silver findings and choker base. Either way you need to weigh the silver elements before you put everything together and take it from there.

925 tags, stamps etc can be a useful way to indicate to customers that you have used sterling findings on pieces below the threshold, but have no legal standing.

Just wondering where they got 7.78g from. Turns out its a quarter of a Troy ounce
