    Default Hi Everyone

    Hi,

Having been fascinated by the many jewellery making videos on youtube, i decided to try making my own.

I have a few of the basics, rolling mill, little torch and hand tools.

Does anyone know a good book or other resource for constructing settings (mostly interested in prong settings).
I've seen a few videos where a collect block was used. I don't have one of these yet and wondered if there was any way round it.

    Many thanks
    Nick

    Hi and welcome.

I think you would enjoy Creative Stone Setting by John Cogswell, which is pretty comprehensive, but easy to follow.

The point of the collet plate is that enables you to make tapered rub down settings from bought in tubing and also to perfect your own made from sheet.

For rings in particular, I find tapered collets more elegant than using plain tube.

As you like claw setting, here is how to make a simple mount: http://etsymetal.blogspot.co.uk/2010...law-prong.html Dennis

    Hi Dennis

That book looks like the thing I've been searching for!

    Cheers again

Look to Amazon.com (US), it's often cheaper than anywhere for this title.
