I asked my friend about the nickle content of silver and he said back in his day ( he is 89 ) silver contained nickle as explained above it seems that it does not any more,
so I stand corrected, that is what is so great about this forum you learn something every time you visit

Oddly, I can't find any historical reference to nickel alloyed with silver - although obviously there is "nickel silver", which is essentially a white brass (with absolutely no silver content).

There's some really interesting high-temperature alloys based around nickel - Nichrome (heating wire), Nimonic (developed for the first jet engine), Inconel and so on.
