Channel setting

Hi

Are channel settings always cast or can they be handmade?
I can cut an accurate channel without any difficulty but how would I make the individual settings?
Ive only worked with setting stones in a cast one so far so please excuse my ignorance :/

Yes, they can be carved by hand. More lemel & time than cast though, but the cast ones always need some tweaking.

How would you make the settings? using a round burr ?

Probably best carve a line with a graver or spitz stick first to guide a small round burr, then increase the ball burr size gradually till it`s almost the stone size.
