Most hotels in/near Basel are block booked out years in advance by the major exhibiting companies there. I always stayed in Germany and got the train in! Stayed in Zurich a couple of times and trained in as well.

The first time I went to Basel, we stayed on a hotel boat called The Esmerelda, it was moored on the Rhein at Three Countries Corner, and we caught a bus to the show each day. The next time I went I took my wife and daughter and we stayed with friends in Zurich and we all got a train to the show and while I visited the show my wife and daughter went to Basel Zoo, then we spent the rest of the week exploring Switzerland. It is a great show and I loved the tool section.
I went to the IJL a couple of years ago, mainly to meet up with Lee Marshall of Knew Concepts, I prefer visiting the antique shows at Olympia.

I'm going Sunday, looking for workshop equipment cant wait
Limited choices on workshop kit. Sutton Tools aren't there again, so it's pretty much HS Walsh only. There's more 3d printers and mills than last year, I think.
Steve, you've been to all of them. Which is the biggest and which the best?
ah OK, still worth a look to see what they have to offer
Pearlescence - difficult to answer as it depends on what you're looking for! For example, if it's watches you're after then Basel is probably the best. If it's pearls, then as you know, Kong Kong is the place to go. For stones, you could argue that Tucson is the best place.......
Thanks Steve. Good to know I'm going all that way for a good reason!
oh just think of all those air miles!! You must be getting free flights by now with the amount you must have collected!!
Trouble is I go with the airline with the deal...usually between emirates (this time) and cathay pacific which is quicker and no stops but was £300 dearer this time. Ah the mysteries of airline ticket pricing.
