Default Procedure for using jump ring for seat in tube setting

I have seen this done. My stones are a bit smaller than the tube setting so want to put jump ring into tube setting, how do I do this?

Raise grains with a suitable graver or scorper to form a support for the jump ring to sit on. Solder in place.

Alternatively if you are shy of scorpers, turn the tube and its stone upside down. Push in an open jump ring so that it holds in place by its springiness. Pull out the stone and solder.
