I have just come back from ‘Desire’ at Chelsea old Town Hall, a show with lots of upmarket, but rather unremarkable jewellery and tableware.

The trends: no resin or anodised aluminium (apologies if I missed them), but pretty pieces made from dyed vegetable ivory and some titanium cuffs.

I did see quite a few picture pieces, using agate and jasper, something I am into at the moment. I particularly lingered over the scenes by Michele White, who also used a beautiful opal with stripes of colour.

Of interest as well, were the attractive tubular neck pieces by Sarah Herriot. They had a short section of about 4cm cut out at the back and this was furnished with rounded spikes, so that it could be snapped back into place as an invisible fastener.

This is one of my favourite venues, as it has easy access by London buses and afterwards there is still Sloanie watching in the Kings Road. Dennis.
