    Default First print

OK, not quite the first - I've been doing some calibration tests as well.

This is 3d printed in resin; it's probably not the right resin for this application as a) it has quite long exposure times (which leads to loss of detail, particularly on prongs and the likes) and b) it is flexible. This one isn't suited to burnout either.

    It's a start

(and yes, I could do it by fabrication, it's not a tricky design in that sense - but all the stone layout is done, the size can be changed quickly and easily...)

That's looking good Peter. Looking forward to seeing the actual thing.

Yes it's a pretty result, but even so it will be an antique one day.

That's exciting, 3d printing is really very cool.

Very cool! I'm obsessed with 3d printers - they're amazing to watch doing their thing.

I am intrigued Peter, in the same printer can you swap between the material?
It looks impressive by the way.

Must be exciting/frutrating/exciting! Love to see the end piece.
We've got a local FabLab, joining is one of my ThingsToDo when the world stops making demands of me, and some commissions come in!

    So will I

Your local FabLab doesn't list any printers that can do this - all the ones they have are filament deposition ones.
However... They do have a Roland MDX20, which can mill waxes. One of their laser cutters could possibly be used to cut acrylic for custom displays too.

    Sorry Lesley - missed that!
Yes, I'm not tied to any one manufacturer for the resin; I've got some high-strength resin that can take vulcanising en route from NL at the moment; there's a number of resins suitable for burn-out on the market too. All it takes is cleaning - or swapping - the vat over and changing exposure times.
