    Default Soldering Gold

I've just learned how to solder silver, is soldering gold the same technique? I have a 9ct labret that's too long so I want to chop it down and resolder it together..... or is this something I should give to a proper jeweller to do? xx

    the principle stays the same.

with gold, you only need to heat the immediate area where the solder needs to flow as gold is fast to heat up, and then fast to melt! (*nods knowingly*)

be gentle with the flame on the piece, make sure it is clean and fluxed as you would with silver. You will need the same carat and colour of solder as metal for the gold.

I would avoid a butt-joint though. If you can drill a little bit of a dip into the end stopper and set the rod the fit snugly inside, it will be less of an issue for coming off
