How do I refire a silver charm?

I have started making jewellery charms from art silver clay.
When I fire them for the first time I know I need to hold a peachy colour. However I have recently experienced a problem with a finished polished piece tarnishing and have been advised that firing the charm again could help. The only thing is, now the piece is silver how do I know when it is at the correct heat?! The last thing I want it to do is melt!!

Well all silver tarnishes and you might be keeping it where the air is particularly rich in pollutants.

It would do no harm, other than the need to re-polish, to re-fire in almost complete darkness, so that you can keep it at the dullest possible glow and then re-pickle.

My feeling is though that it would not prevent tarnishing again and I would just clean it up in silver dip, which is quick and easy. Then keep it in a closed bag or container with an anti tarnish tab, available on line. Dennis.
