    Default Crimps as rivets

Has anyone ever used silver crimps as tube rivets?

Carole, from one who has yet to use rivets (but who loves the look) wouldn't they be a bit, er, tiny? Feel free to shoot me down in flames cos I know nuffink!

I asked that very question to a lady in a bead shop the other day. She said she thought they would split. But the ones she had were very thin. I don't see a problem if they are a bit thicker though. It's just tube afterall isn't it? I'd be interested to know if you succeed.

That's what I meant by tiny, I suppose fragile would be a better word.

    Yes!
And they worked just fine. They were good quality fairly thick walled crimp beads though. And I suspect they worked out more expensive than just cutting a bit of tube. My only problem was that even a 3mm crimp was a bit too short for what I wanted to achieve - especially as I like to curl the edges of my rivets a little bit.

I've used some good quality 3mm crimps and they were fine - I found it easier to use the crimp than cut my tubes down to that size.

I'm hoping for world peace but I'd also like something shiny as well...

Yes fine as long as they are silver and not too thin (practice first they are cheap )

Thanks peoples. I want to use them with aluminium and thin silver, so I think I'll give em a try.

Wow what a fantastic idea!!! I have only done riveting a couple of times and was not happy with the results. Since then I have bought a riveting hammer as I think the one I was using was a bit big...
