    Default Gold plating equipment

    Happy new Year everyone.

    New year, new equipment!

I'm really wanting to start plating some of my pieces. It seems that a lot of the equipment available will only flash plate and I'm really only interested in plating to 2.5 microns so that I can call my jewellery "vermeil". Does anyone have any recommendations please?

Gold is beautiful on its own, why plate it.

I think Carole is talking about plating silver with gold, Pat.

I'm not sure about the cyanide thing. That's something I'd like to know.

I have a funny feeling that during discussions on home plating before there was talk of cyanide or at least some very dangerous stuff and people were being advised to sent work off to the professionals

Wow!!! that's a lot of gold, the "Central Chancery" C.B.E.'s only have 1 micron and that's a lot of gold, I reckon you'll have to double your prices at 2•5.

I use cyanide on tarnished jewels, we have a 3 x 3 ft vat full of it, I don't know the answer to the question but I can get hold of the cosh report in our plating department to list the chemicals used.

I know absolutely nothing about plating. I'm just assuming that flash plating will wear off in no time.

I've rubbed a thumb print off some of my jewels before being despatched and the silver has shone through, (flash) sent back to the plating department with strong words.
