    The trick to not melt the chain links on the back of the pendant is to apply the heat to the main pendant ( heat it up first ) then put some heat closer to where the links need soldering on. Hitting the loops first puts too much heat into them ending up in the melting you've experienced.

    I'm feeling a little elated today because this morning someone (outside of friends and family) has asked me to make something similar for them in the new year. 😊 hope they don't change their mind over Xmas! Ha ha

    You just need a basic mini-torch, which is filled with lighter gas. They have an adjustment for flame size and a ring to close the air hole. Dennis.
