where there are low scoring reviews read 'more' to see the supplier's response. Tests the surface only unless you scratch to lift any plate. I use specific gravity test as one of a suite of tests to check items.

Always worth reading the reviews to get an idea of the reviewer's grasp of reality... Quicktest sell the same model and they seem to be picky about what they sell; finding descriptions along the lines of "it's cheap because it's rubbish" are endearing.

I use acids myself, although only occasionally - the only times I've needed to test are when doing repairs on stuff that has no hallmark (old pieces, for example).

@ metalsmith, Is gravity test always perfect ? specially in the case of hollow items ?
