Default work in progress, almost there

although not finished, I just wanted to share this.

I was asked by a friend to melt some old gold rings and reuse the onyx in one of them to make a new ring. New ring size is a huge Z+3 (mahoosive)

still need to do the tidy up and polish, but so pleased it worked. It has taken me four days and I had to add double the original gold. I have discovered that I cannot pour into an ingot mould, but can pour into a skillet very successfully. The initial billet needed rolling and annealing from 2mm long, 10mm wide and 3mm thick down to 70mm long by 20mm wide and by .7mm thick. I have now developed new muscles on my shoulder.

I wouldn't know where to start with that one, great work.
How is the 'meaty' end made, presumably it's not solid.
It looks more 'flowing' and curvy than just an ordinary bezel.

    thank you.

it was a T-bar shape, sort of. With a curve, but the arc was cut further once it was shaped. I used a ring bender to bend the T and a little bit of it's length, soldered the two now curved T-parts together (after checking the stone size) and then curved the shank. I added a little bridge underneath for the stone to sit on. I then cut some of the gold out for the stone to fit snugly into the top. A little bit of gentle tapping (okay, medium tapping) and the gold started to cover the stone. The onyx was a pain really though as it is not a flat cabochon, it's sides have a girdle, like a facet cut stone - and I think that is why it is more rounded, so gives that curved look. Fortunately, these days, I am okay in cutting out metal for stones to sit into. It was easier to set the stone, than it was to fit the bridge.
