    Question Topaz

Can anyone tell me why, for a 5mm faceted stone, Sky Blue Topaz is so much cheaper than London Blue?
Have just looked on Cookies and Sky is £1.84 and London £6.36.....

I think it's got something to do with the way the stone treated in order for it to show the London Blue colour Theresa.

Perhaps the sky blue is its natural state, whereas London blue definitely isn't. It's treated with radiation of some kind / heat I think?

Not sure, as Cookson state both have been treated.
    Just curious....

I think it is a problem of re-stocking Theresa, in other words the price hike when they buy in new stock.

At present AE Ward, who are often cheaper, list Swiss blue(5.0mm) at £8.40, but less for quantities. They list the same size London blue for £8.00. So obviously it's worth shopping around. Sky blue is the lightest colour and not on offer there as round faceted.

I don't know about you, but my favourite is the Swiss blue although the smaller ones can be rather too pale. As already stated, they start off white and are blued by irradiation. There is also Precious topaz, which is lemon yellow, but not as rich looking as citrine. Regards, Dennis.

I think it's down to market demand.....Swiss Blue is the most expensive, particularly in larger sizes, all 3 are treated, (sky, London & Swiss)......just don't look at golden topaz.......rare and very expensive!!

Thanks everyone - as I thought, a case of shopping around (as if we don't have enough to do!)

You might end up with a turkey. Not all bad, as it's near Christmas.
