The 3 piece matching 'red/gold/green' set - some of you saw pics of the brooch already - I made that first then the matching earrings, then the necklace - all fun stuff (= 'not very easy' lol!). Same goes for the 'filigree wave' pendant - very thin slices, very light and delicate and difficult to frame, and I have 'proper-big man-hands' heheheh...

Very nice, I would love to work in resin myself, but I can't get it over here in Dubai

    Thanks Paul.

What's the issue with Dubai and resin? Could you not get around this by having someone send some on to you?

    Cheers,

    Shaun.

Possibly, but there may be restrictions due to chemicals etc etc - All I know is I can't buy it off the shelf

    Love the wave pendant !
I buy my resin in the UK and get a friend to bring it over, there are all sorts of restrictions on mailing it.
Which type do you use Shaun?
Mine seems to take forever to cure properly.

Thanks! The shape is one I use quite a lot in one variation or another - I have a silver ring and a silver bracelet currently in the pipeline both using that shape as a part of the design.

The resin(s) I use are from a UK company (ABL Stevens) - I use a slow curing epoxy and a fairly slow curing polyurethane, both are very optically clear and set to a very high hardness and toughness especially if given a post-cure oven treatment (10+ hours at ~70C), but can be a bit fussy - the slightest moisture in the mixing cups, in the moulds or in anything I embed can slow down their curing or worse still, make them foam up/bubble before setting (although this has also proven a useful feature).

The amount of pigment also effects cure time quite a lot too - have to always use the bare minimum to achieve the desired colour or it can stay wet for 2 days before it even starts to set-up.

Also it's only really for larger castings - smaller volumes can either take forever to set, or hardly even thicken.

However these are the very best I have found on the market, and once fully hardened can take a very fine finish and polish indeed, and the same company also supply faster setting versions.

    Cheers!

    Shaun.
